Damla Senturk

Professor and Chair, Department of Biostatistics

Dr. Senturk received her Ph.D. degree in Statistics from UC Davis in 2004 and joined the faculty in the Department of Statistics at Pennsylvania State University. She joined the faculty of the UCLA Department of Biostatistics in 2011. Her main areas of statistical methodology research are longitudinal and functional data analysis. Her methodology research is motivated by her collaborative research in psychiatry and nephrology. She serves as a senior consulting faculty member in SIStat, UCLA Biostatistics core in the Semel Institute of Neuroscience and Human Behavior. Through this role, she collaborates on a wide range of psychiatric disorders from Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, ADHD, major depressive disorder to post traumatic stress disorder. Her research in nephrology targets developing novel multilevel statistical models for studying time-dynamic effects of patient-, facility- and region-level factors (across U.S.) of hospitalization and mortality risk among dialysis patients, a cohort with frequent hospitalizations and very high mortality rates. The overarching goal is to provide the knowledge base for improving patient care by identifying modifiable multilevel risk factors and time periods of elevated risks after transition to dialysis.
