DataX Postdoctoral Scholar

Meadow Jones, Ph.D. is a post-doctoral Research Fellow at DataX and Department of Gender Studies at UCLA. Dr. Jones is a feminist researcher, writer, teacher, and social practice artist. Her inquiry includes the use of artistic, material and social based practices towards the individual and collective redress of trauma and structural violence. As a working-class, disabled, first-generation scholar, Dr. Jones constructs radically inclusive, embodied communities of engaged practices to counter the consequences of structural violence. Her forthcoming monograph, Archiving the Trauma Diaspora, is a crucial scholarly contribution to arts-based research, integrating critical trauma studies, disability studies, queer theory, and intersectional feminist theories of data and technology.

Previously, Dr. Jones held a post-doctoral appointment at the University of Michigan at Ann-Arbor at the Barger Leadership Institute. Her work has been published in literary journals, peer reviewed journals, poetry collections, books and chapbooks and includes the following:

Dr. Jones’ work spans many contexts: she is an organizer at the Gesundheit Institute in Appalachia, a teacher at the international School for Designing a Society, an artistic collaborator with Prop Theater in Chicago, and she is on the board of the Amherst Writers and Artists. She currently facilitates a series of arts-based healing workshops for three key communities: homeless residents with Cunningham Township in central Illinois, trauma and resiliency caregivers, and people with disabilities. 

Meadow Jones, Ph.D., is a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at DataX and the Department of Gender Studies at UCLA. Dr. Jones is a feminist researcher, writer, teacher, and social practice artist. Her research explores the use of artistic, material, and socially-based practices to address both individual and collective trauma, as well as structural violence. As a working-class, disabled, first-generation scholar, Dr. Jones works to build inclusive, embodied communities of engaged practice to counter the consequences of structural violence.Her forthcoming monograph, Archiving the Trauma Diaspora, is a significant scholarly contribution to arts-based research, integrating critical trauma studies, disability studies, queer theory, and intersectional feminist theories of data and technology. In addition to her experience as an AWA facilitator, she has adapted her research into trauma-responsive curricula and workshops.An engaged social practice artist, award-winning filmmaker, and community organizer, Dr. Jones's work has been published in literary journals, peer-reviewed scientific journals, poetry collections, books, and chapbooks. She facilitates arts and writing practices for a diverse range of populations, including undergraduates, artists, activists, teachers, teenagers, trauma survivors, prisoners, individuals with visible and invisible disabilities, caregivers, doctors, and medical students.In addition to offering workshops, Meadow provides one-on-one creative consulting and trauma recovery coaching. In other parts of her life Meadow is a dharma student at the Ann Arbor Zen Buddhist Temple, a facilitator at the Gesundheit Institute and the School for Designing a Society, a collaborator with The Prop Theatre, and on the board of directors of the Amherst Writers and Artists.
