
Artist Opening Reception: Hye Min Cho in Conversation With Lauren Lee McCarthy
DataX is honored to announce our first artist reception featuring the work of UCLA alumnus Hye Min Cho. Join us for a conversation with the artist and Lauren Lee McCarthy about her video installation, 石 (Rock), 财 (Wealth), 壶 (Kettle), 笔 (Writing brush), 松 (Pine), which references the tradition of East Asian still life paintings.
Light refreshments will be served. Registration will open in mid-October.
About the Artist
Hye Min Cho (b. Incheon, South Korea) is a media artist, who through her works visualize the qualities of computational methods of perception and their differences to human perception. She uses machine learning technologies to make renditions of the familiar that reveals unfamiliar qualities that arise as a product of the algorithm’s process. Her works are reflections of the machine-mediated beings we are starting to become. Hye Min holds a M.F.A in Design | Media Arts from UCLA and a B.Sc in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from UC Berkeley.
Lauren Lee McCarthy is a Professor of Design Media Arts and Disability Studies.
